Alex Megos vs. 75 camera Bullet Time setup in Action Directe (9a)

In october 2023 world class climber Alex Megos and I realized a project that had been on the To Do list for about a year: a bullet time session at the famous Waldkopf climbing crag – and more specifically, at the world famous Action Directe route. The first (hard) move of this route is arguably the most famous move in climbing and for sure the most iconic one: a pretty long jump from a bad mono (one finger pocket) to a two finger pocket.

The biggest challenge was to set everything up at a height of about 5m at the highest point. But thanks to a couple of friends we could get everything done in time for beautiful evening light at the crag. It’s definitely an impressive sight when the entire setup is up and running!! Here are a couple of behind the scenes shots in a somewhat logical order 😉

Everything ready to go…!

As usual, the shooting itself was a piece of cake compared to all the preparation and setting up. Alex and Yannick (Flohé, another German top climber who spontaneously joined the session) each jumped a couple of times until the skin on their fingers waved the white flag and that was it! Luckily, taking everything down and carrying it back to the car took a lot less time and so at approximately 9:30pm, the 15 hour session was done!

Maybe this preview here works as well, if not then it’s due to the viewer’s beta status:
